Emile Smith Rowe England call up
Nothing against the lad but I find it annoying that Southgate was eyeing the lad "for the last 18 months" but totally ignored our Antonino. So called "Big Club" Bias rears its ugly head yet again!.

Generally, as some of us do, I don't give two hoots about other teams players, but when one gets called up for England or play a part of a very memorable game it grabs a lot of people attention.

I mean I have a number work mates who supports other teams who didn't know too much about Bowen but were impressed about his performance against Liverpool, and some of them thought he was Welsh because of his surname and that he was born in or around the Welsh Border.

I recall a news report when SGE selected Theo Walcott for England, ITN made a big "WHO'S WHO" about him (even about his school and his girlfriend).

On checking out ESR I was checking out his Match/goals ratio etc as anyone would. Put it this way, Bowen stats would come up favourably for an England call up..

The fact you had to check who is was suggests you might not be the most reliable source of info on the topic.

“ Ben Johnson must surely be coming onto Southgates radar ”

Give it a rest there’s about 6 or 7 RB’s ahead of Johnson

Southgate thought Sancho and Saka would make more of an impact from the bench at the Euros than Lingard or Antonio.
Says all you need to know about him!

He was never going to pick Antonio, due to his age mate.

Block mate we know Antonio now plays for Jamaica but Southgate was eyeing ESR for 18 months during which time Antonio was available to play for the 3 Lions..

Ben Johnson must surely be coming onto Southgates radar & if he played for Liverpool or one of the supposed elite clubs would more than likelyvbe there now.
The likes of Cresswell can also count himself as unlucky when you see the likes of Coady as a regular in the squads.
Bowen maybe needs a few more goals to force a way in.

Going back a good few years Alvin Martin was a much quicker & classier defender than Terry Butcher but being Ipswich and then cutting his head got him the nod ahead of him from Bobby Robson.

Ashtons career ending injury when training with England also sticks in the mind so when I think about it im not to bothered about our players not being picked.

To be fair, Antonio has acknowledged that Southgate has been looking for younger players and antonio being 31 means that he isn’t really the future.

We have a shit load of matches this season. I’d rather none of our players play internationally

People saying Southgate is average, LOL!

Semi final and a final in his two only major tournaments, and 3rd in the UEFA Nations League.

Proper shit, that.

Re: Emile Smith Rowe England call up
Antonio is too raw for Southgate.

He would have been an asset to England even as an impact sub. European defenders rarely come up against a player like him. His technique is not up to Southgates standards so he never got a look in.

Bowen is surely the next for a call up.

Antonio has played for Jamaica, FFS.

Smith Rowe deserves it. He looks a very good player.

Re: Emile Smith Rowe England call up
IMO Southgate doesn't have big club bias, he has a bias towards ever younger players and 'potential'.

It also protects his position if he's always betting on potential and never on peak form. If his squad is always pre-peak, then there is always the promise of 'better to come in the future' that never arrives (and is never expected to have arrived).
